Code of Professional Conduct

A credential is a public claim about a person, made by the Council on evidence. This code is what the holder undertakes in return: to represent the credential truthfully, to do assurance work honestly, and to accept that the credential can be withdrawn if they do not.

§ 1 — Policy

1. Who this code binds

This code applies to every holder of a Council credential or endorsement, to every candidate from the moment they register for an assessment, and to holders of the AIAC AI Literacy Certificate to the extent of §3 (truthful representation). Acceptance of this code is a condition of certification, and the certificate states so on its face.

2. Professional integrity

  • Perform assurance, audit, risk, and governance work honestly, on evidence, and within your competence. Where a matter exceeds your competence, say so.
  • Do not sign, certify, or endorse a conclusion you have not examined, or that the evidence in front of you does not support.
  • Disclose conflicts of interest to those relying on your work, and decline work where a conflict cannot be managed.
  • Protect confidential information obtained in professional work, and use it for no other purpose.

3. Truthful representation of the credential

  • State the credential exactly: its published name, its post-nominal, and its current status. A lapsed or withdrawn credential must not be presented as held.
  • Do not present the credential as a licence, a government authorisation, or an endorsement by any regulator or standards body. It is an industry credential and must never be described otherwise.
  • Do not present Council membership, an endorsement, or the AI Literacy Certificate as a certification. Describing membership as certification is a breach of this code.
  • Use the credential badge and identifier only as issued, without alteration, and only in connection with yourself.

4. Conduct in assessments

  • Present your own work, under your own verified identity, without assistance the examination rules do not permit.
  • Do not disclose, solicit, or use examination content outside the examination. The integrity of the item bank protects every honest candidate's result.
  • Comply with the published examination rules and the directions of invigilators.

5. Duties to the Council

  • Notify the Council within 20 business days of any event that bears materially on your fitness to hold the credential, including a finding of professional misconduct by another body or a criminal conviction involving dishonesty.
  • Cooperate with any Council investigation under this code, and with revalidation requirements when they fall due.
  • Keep your register contact details current.

6. Breach, suspension, and withdrawal

An alleged breach is examined by a conduct panel convened for the case, with at least one member external to the Council, and decided on the evidence. Outcomes are proportionate: no action, advice, a written warning, suspension of the credential, or withdrawal. Suspension and withdrawal are recorded on the public register — an entry is never deleted — and are subject to appeal under the appeals and complaints procedure. No adverse decision is taken without the holder having seen the substance of the allegation and had an opportunity to respond.

7. Reporting a concern

Anyone may report a suspected breach — misuse of a credential, misrepresentation, or misconduct in an assessment — to hello@aiassurancecouncil.org, or through the misuse report route. Reports of credential misuse can be checked against the public register by anyone, without an account.
